Semi-automated vs manually controlled dynamic facades: assessment through a field study on multi-domain occupant satisfaction

Occupant satisfaction and acceptance with automated control strategies for dynamic façades is currently a barrier to the upscale of these systems. Building owners, designers occupants are often unconvinced that an strategy could really be beneficial building energy efficiency occupant satisfaction. Previous work has indicated integrated multi-domain approach required capturing influence on occupants. The aim this paper provide new knowledge whether facades user override (semi-automated) can outperform manually operated in terms interaction, discomfort, indoor environmental quality were monitored two different scenarios: one where façade blinds automatically controlled, aiming at maximising daylight outdoor view access whilst mitigating glare, which controlled by Results showed when was semi-automated strategy, higher (especially thermal environment), despite reported number discomfort events due lack view.
